Baroda - Heritage

In 1908, The great visionary, Maharaja Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad of Baroda, whole-heartedly supported the idea of  setting  up  a commercial bank.

The  founder  strongly believed that, "a bank of this nature would  prove to be a beneficial  agency for  lending , transmission and  deposit  of money  and a  powerful  factor in the  development  of  art, industries and  commerce  of  the  state as also of adjoining territories".

Bank of Baroda was established on 20th July 1908 in the princely state of Baroda by the great visionary, Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III has grown over the decades as a large international Bank with over 2738 branches in and outside India.

Unlike other state-owned bank, Baroda could maintain its unique identity and established a strong national presence even before independence, to all corners of the country.

By the end of the World War II Bank of Baroda had established sound banking relationships with institutions in several countries including United Kingdom. Bank opened the first overseas branch in Mombassa, Kenya in 1953. The journey of opening branches continued and first branch in Fiji opened in 1961 at Suva.Today it has presence in 21 countries.

1961 Bank of Baroda began its operations in Fiji on July 5, 1961 by opening the  first branch in  the  premise at  Mark  Street, SUVA

1963 Bank expanded to the Western side of Fiji by opening another branch in second city at Lautoka  on June 14, 1963
1966 Four agencies were opened at Nadi, RAKIRAKI, Tavua and Ba in Western Side in Fiji

Sigatoka Agency was opened in June 1966 as agency of  Nadi   branch

1969 Ba Agency was converted into full fledged branch in 1969
1971-72

On March 27, 1971 Labasa branch was opened to Banking needs of Vanua Levu

Nadi Agency was converted into full fledged branch in 1972.

The New Premise for Suva Branch was opened by Hon. Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, the then  Prime Minister of Fiji in 1972

1976

Sigatoka Agency was converted into full fledged branch.

Fully equipped Training Centre was opened on July 12, 1976 and bank started providing training to its staff and other banks in Fiji.
